Paroi Installation

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU BEGIN INSTALLATION

This manual is prepared to assist you in installing PAROI Surface Solution. Please read this manual carefully before you begin working.

PAROI is a high grade glued film (Vinyl Chloride) with graphic treatment on the surface. It is superior and durable against changes in weather conditions, tears as well as exposure to certain

chemicals. PAROI can easily be installed on various different materials and shapes, but it may not be suitable for all surfaces. Please read this manual carefully for best results.

1. PAROI SPECIFICATIONS.

Choose the right Color and Style. The base color of the substrate may affect the color of PAROI.

Joint seams will appear on the long side of the roll. The long side of the roll is determined by the

direction of the pattern (vertically). Compared to other PAROI styles, the Suede Series is more

sensitive to dirt and stains. It is recommended that Suede be installed in areas where it is not

                frequently touched by hands.

2-7           Coated Surface

                  NOTE:

Some coatings may make adhesion difficult. Test the surface before application.

Materials such as silicone, fluoride, alkyd coating and enamel paint make adhesion

difficult. If peeling occurs, remove coating using a sander then treat with putty.

If the coated surface adheres well, install PAROI after edges are treated with primer.

Test the coated surface to determine if it would be damaged by thinner or primer. If

so, remove the coat of film or apply sufficient treatment on the surface before installing PAROI.

2-8           Glass Surface

CAUTION: Do not install PAROI on large windows where there is direct sunlight.

Completely covering windows traps heat and may cause the glass to expand and break.

                                a. Remove oil and dirt from the surface using thinner or rubbing alcohol.

                                b. Install PAROI.

3. TOOLS FOR PAROI INSTALLATION.

                Squeegee

Squeegee with soft cloth or chamois leather.

                Roller

                Bamboo spatula

                Steel ruler

                Razor knife

                Hair dryer

                Cutting mat

4. INSTALLING PAROI

Always install PAROI on a flat, smooth surface. PAROI should be installed on a well conditioned surface that is flat and smooth. Failure to apply PAROI on a flat and smooth

surface may result in peeling and damage to PAROI.

4-1.          Basic Installation

       Measure And Cut Wallpaper.

Measure the exact size of the hanging area. Cut PAROI using a razor or cutting tool on a rubber work board. The wallpaper sheet should be cut 2” larger than the actual size of your surface.

               Fold Backing Paper:

Peel off about 4” of backing paper from PAROI, and fold back firmly.

Keep PAROI in place with your knee.

               Tentative Positioning:

Place PAROI into position and push sticky sides with your fingers onto the wall.

Make sure to position wallpaper accurately, so there is no slack in the middle.

Caution Position the sheet vertically, then tentatively positon the wallpaper on the surface.

Tentative Installation:

Use a squeegee from the bottom to top, and from the center moving right and left

from the sticky area to tentatively apply.  Roll the rest of sheet up to avoid wrinkling.

Cut backing paper and place it on the floor when PAROI reaches 12” above the

floor. This way static dust can be kept away from sticking to the glued side.

Installation:

Peal off the backing paper 8” to 12” at a time slowly and install wallpaper from

top to bottom. Use squeegee from the center moving right and left as if drawing

a large circle. (It is easier to work with the wallpaper if you do not fold the

backing paper and use the spring from the paper to apply.)

Use a roller instead of squeegee for soft surfaces such as grain and suede.

                Press

After installing PAROI using the steps noted above, flatten out the surface again with a squeegee from the center, moving from right and left as if drawing a large circle. This time press firmly as you flatten the surface. Position the squeegee at a 45° degree angle against the base, removing all bubbles and air while applying the sheet firmly to the base. Always use the squeegee in the same direction to avoid air bubbles.

Caution  Press edges firmly.

You Are Done!:

Make sure that you remove air bubbles from the entire surface. If working in

colder temperatures, warm the sheet with a dryer in order to easily identify air bubbles.

If you find air bubbles, push them to one area the using squeegee, then make a small

hole to let the air out.

Wallpaper Joints

Please Note

When adjoining two papers, choose the appropriate joining place between the

overlay or butt-joint.

                Overlay joint:

Put the edge of the wallpaper over the other to join the two sides. The overlay

joint will not open the seam.

Masking Tape and Primer Treatment:

Place masking tape aside of the overlay area in the first piece.

Apply primer on the overlay.

The overlay should be 1/4” to 1/2”.

Remove Masking Tape:

Remove the tape from the top to bottom after primer is dried.

Layer:

Place the second sheet over the first one.

Cut off excess with a razor or cutting tool.

Make sure to cut only the second sheet.

When overlaying PAROI, determine which sheet should be on top.

Butt-joint

Two sheets of PAROI are joined without a gap.

Install The First Sheet:

Cut a slit on backing paper of the first sheet 3” inside the edge.

Install the first sheet leaving the 3” wide backing paper remaining.

Install The Second Sheet:

Install the second sheet over the 3” overlay.

Cut a Slit:

Cut the center of the overlay area vertically with a razor or cutting tool

Caution  Be careful not to cut the base material. Some base materials may create a gap if cut on the surface.

.

Remove The Hidden And Unnecessary Area of the Sheet.

Remove ①, then ② and ③ in order.

Do not remove sheet ② and backing ③ together. It may create distortion at the cut

if those two parts were removed together.

Remove Backing Paper:

Remove ④ out of the second PAROI. (keiko-check usage)

Eliminate the Overlay:

Eliminate the overlay by pushing right and left edges with fingers to tentatively positioning the sheets.

Adhesion:

Adhere the joint area with squeegee firmly to the base.

4-3.          Convex Corners

NOTE: Convex corners are critical points where installation will be most visible. Use a

corner beat or corner tape for the edges to create a clear straight edge. Always apply

primer to the corners to allow the sheet to firmly adhere.

Base Preparation: Prepare the base using appropriate materials.

For uneven corners such as calcium silicate board, use putty to level surface.

                                a. Flatten rough areas of the convex corners with putty.

                                b. Smooth the surface using sandpaper so that the corner tape will adhere easily.

                                c. Use corner beat or tape at convex corners

                                d. Apply putty over corner beat to eliminate gap.

                                e. Apply primer 1.5” from the corners to strengthen the adhesion.

                                f. Scrape surface lightly with spatula to eliminate excess primer.

                                g. Cut the PAROI leaving at least 2” excess wide from the corner. Apply sheet to the

largest surface first. Pull the edges of the sheet once applied to eliminate air bubbles and

keep the sheet firmly to the surface.

                                h. If PAROI becomes stiff and difficult to work with due to cold temperatures, use a hand

dryer. CAUTION: Too much heat will cause the sheets to melt.

4-4.          Concave Corners

NOTE: Concave corners will not finish well if sheets are not adhered firmly in place.

There are two ways to work with concave corners. One is to place the sheet over the

corner, and the other is to cut the sheet at the corner. The sheets are easier to work with if

the sheets are cut at the corner.

                                a. Prepare the base using appropriate materials.

                                b. Apply primer 1.5” wide from each corner.

                                c. Scrape surface lightly with spatula to eliminate excess primer.

                                d. Cut PAROI and leave ½” excess from the corner. Peel back about

4” of the backing paper and fold it firmly.

                                e. Apply the edge of the sheet firmly. Make sure there are no air bubbles or slack.

                                f. Peel of the backing and adhere the sheet firmly using a squeegee as if drawing a large

circle. Push tight into concave corners.

                                g. Use a squeegee on the corners to press the sheet firmly to the surface.

                                h. Use a metal ruler to cut excess material.

                                i. Cut the sheet where it overlaps, leaving about 1/16”.

                                j. Apply the secod sheet to the other corner.

                                k. Cut the sheet leaving ½” excess from the corner.

                                l. Repeat process from first sheet.

4-5.          Curved Surfaces

                                a. Apply primer thoroughly to all curved areas.

                                b. Cut vertical slits in the backing paper only. Partially apply PAROI lengthwise

                                between slits.

                                c. Position PAROI to the center.

                                d. Apply the PAROI’s center portion by peeling off the backing paper. Push and set the

PAROI from the center moving from right to left, and from top to bottom.

                                e. Apply the sides in the same manner.

                                f. Use a squeegee to adhere the PAROI firmly.

4-7.          DO NOT INSTALL PAROI ON

                                a. Large Windows Exposed to Direct Sunlight:

Completely covering windows with direct sunlight traps heat and may cause the glass to expand and break.

                                b. Floors:

PAROI is not designed to be walked on. Floors may become slippery and PAROI may crack and peel.

                                c. Swimming Pools and Sauna Areas

Do not apply PAROI inside or around pools or saunas. PAROI may peel under extreme humidity and high temperature, or exposure to water.

                                d. Other Surfaces

                                                Materials that generate off-gas:

                                                                * Polycarbonates that generate off-gas.

                                                Materials that contain isolation components:

                                                                * Tapolyne, soft vinyl chloride, etc.

                                                Materials that lack adhesive properties:

* PP (Polypropylene),PE (Polyethylene),Silicon and Fluorine resin, etc.

5.             WORK ENVIRONMENT

                                a. Temperature:

Recommended temperature should be between 59 F and 86 F.

                                b. Lighting:

Good lighting is essential since poor lighting conditions may result in overlooking air bubbles, which may later cause peeling.

                                c. Dust:

Make sure to clean the floor around the work area before installation. Any dust

between PAROI and the foundation may cause air bubbles.

                                                                * If PAROI is charged with static, the adhesive side may attract dust.

                                d. Ventilation:

Allow for sufficient ventilation as some of the primers and sealers may contain

solvents that emit harmful gases. When working in small and enclosed areas, use

                                                a ventilation fan.
